The U.S. economy created 145,000 jobs in December 2019, according to the final BLS Economic Situation report of 2019. The healthcare sector contributed 28,100 new jobs last month, accounting for nearly 20% of all job growth. The unemployment rate remained at 3.5%.
Once again ambulatory care accounted for the majority of job gains last month, adding 23,100 new jobs. Hospitals added a 8,800 new jobs during the same period of time. Healthcare grew by 399,000 new jobs in 2019, as compared to a job growth of 250,000 jobs in 2018.
