Coronavirus Prevention

When considering personal preparedness, it is important to keep a few points in mind. First, infectious disease experts are emphasizing that coronavirus causes an illness that is similar to the flu. While a vaccine for coronavirus is not expected to be available for at least 12-18 months, everyday habits that protect us from common respiratory illness are even more important now. We all can protect our own health as well as the health of our family members and community by remembering:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands often, using either soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel for at least 20 seconds
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe

Proper Hand Washing Prevents Spread of Germs

In light of the recent Coronavirus outbreak, we are sharing helpful tips on the best way to prevent the spread of infection and germs- hand washing.

Washing hands prevents illnesses and spread of infections to others.   Handwashing  with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent infections because people frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth without even realizing it.

When hands are visibly dirty, contaminated or soiled, wash with non-antimicrobial or antimicrobial soap and water. Always wash your hands before eating and after using the restroom.  Use warm water with a nickel to quarter size of liquid soap. Lather, rub all surfaces and under nails. Rub for at least 15 seconds and rinse well. Dry hands with a paper towel, use that towel to turn off faucets and open the door.

If hands are not visibly soiled, use an alcohol-based hand rub for routinely decontaminating hands. Cover all surfaces until hands feel dry, approximately 20 seconds. After approximately 10 uses, wash your hands with soap and friction.

Top 3 Onboarding Best Practices to Get Your Candidates to Work

At HWS, we are committed to making it easier to do business with us. An important part of our MSP Program is the candidate onboarding process and experience. This week we sat down with Matt Wildenthaler, HWS MSP Program Director, and Skye Nicholson, HWS MSP Program Professional for their tips and best practices on how to ensure your clinicians make it through the HWS MSP onboarding process as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Here are their top 3 tips:

  1. Understand the Requirements Inside and Out

It may sound basic, but having a solid understanding of the position requirements is essential to a successful placement. To do so, we recommend using the Facility Checklist and following the processed as outlined in Workforce 2.0 to ensure that the right requirements are assigned from a state, facility and specialty level. Make sure you are checking the position on the match and unit profile in the system.

  1. Set Realistic Expectations for Your Candidate

Give your candidates a realistic ballpark for when they’ll be able to start — a good time frame is 3 weeks from confirmation to start. Instruct your candidates to complete their required training early, as HealthStream training can take between 16-18 hours and Meditech instructor classes often book quickly.  The sooner a candidate completes their training, the sooner they can start their assignment. It's also important to inform your candidates that testing is often done in course format and is not a "class," so it is a good idea to reinforce any related pre-requisites.

  1. Upload Documents by the Deadline

We highly recommend that all required documents be uploaded by the Wednesday before start date at the absolute latest in order to give yourself enough time for any unexpected issues.

By keeping these best practices top of mind, your candidates will get to work more easily and in a more timely manner.

Let Us Know: What have you found to be your best onboarding practice?
